Thinking of replacing those chipped and crusty old tiles in your swimming pool or spa? Or better yet -- are you building a new swimming pool or spa in your backyard and haven't yet picked out the tiles?

Sight unseen -- with tile design names like ModDotz Porcelain Aqua, ModRocks Natural Pebble Mosaic 'Seattle' and Brio Blend 'Swank' -- you know ModWalls' products are not the standard fare you'd find at the local pool or tile store. Are you sensing something sort of retro, midcentury modern, urban, eco-friendly?

Right on! ModWalls' designs range from glass tiles in an assortment of colors, sizes and finishes to stainless-steel tile; glazed porcelain penny rounds; modern glazed ceramics; eco-friendly cork; natural pebble mosaics and recycled glass pebbles. Described as "Architectural Surfaces That Inspire," the tiles can be used for wall and floor coverings, and some are for indoor/outdoor use -- check with the specifications listed with each pattern. Products are available both retail and to the trade at www.modwalls.com or (831) 439-9734.

That tile is really lovely. I’m looking to re-surface my concrete pool.

I found a website that will do a photo mosaic done in glass tile (http://www.susanjablonmosaics.com/glass-tile/photo-mosaic-glass-tile.html).

I’ve been working with the designers to come up with an ideas for a photo mosaic in my pool. Now I can’t decide between a sea scape or a coral reef.

Those are lovely. My husband and I (with help from our teenage son) are undertaking a pool tile project ourselves, sort of unplanned. Not the whole pool, just the sides and steps for now. I’ll be covering our progress during the summer. Good luck with yours!

Far better than the standard blue mosaic, a twist on the classic. There are so many options for the pools these days, just make sure the backing is fired and not painted on a cured.
