Putting This Politely as Possible: The CDC's Six 'PLEAs' for Healthy Swimming Habits

Wednesday July 16, 2008
Your guests are enjoying a lovely, refreshing swim in your pool when the incident occurs, followed by a quick announcement: "Everyone out of the pool!" No, it's not a pesky pool shark putting a damper on your swimming shindig. That angelic-faced toddler bobbing along in his inflatable safety ring has just experienced a swim diaper overload and the threat of a recreational water illness (RWI) has become a reality.

I'm trying to put it politely. The little fella pooped in the pool.

With these inevitable occurences in mind, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued Six 'PLEAs' for Healthy Swimming: Protection Against Water Illnesses. Read the guidelines, discuss them with your children and their friends, and actually follow these hygenic swimming behaviors for a healthier, cleaner swimming environment for all involved.
