Wordless Wednesday: Guess Who Once Called This 'My Yard?'
Wednesday September 17, 2008
Hint: This is the backyard and pool / lagoon of a Queen Anne-style residence. The one-time occupant is rich and famous (surprise!). Answer will be revealed next Wednesday!

Let’s see… who starred in “Creature From the Black Lagoon”?
Hi Randall: That film featured such luminaries as Richard Carlson, Julia Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno, and Whit Bissell. The lagoon lurker was played by Ricou Browning, with Ben Chapman on land. Any names ring a bell?
Hmmmm…Elizabeth Taylor?
Can’t you picture Liz and Dick taking a late-afternoon swim before their 5 PM cocktails?
Ha! That looks more like a *brown* lagoon to me!
I like the cupola on the house…Shot in pitch blackness: Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain)?
For no logical reason, I’m guessing Ann Rice. Isn’t it weird some of us are learning towards authors?
Authors, hmmm. That’s because you must book-learnin’ types.
must BE book-learnin’ types. Guess that leaves me out. I haven’t had my first cup o’ caffeine this AM. I knows better.
I know, that’s where Steve Fossett crashed. No wonder they can’t find him.
I think I know where this is…but not who lived there. (Is it in Southern California?)
I have no idea, but I’m definitely curious now. I can’t wait to hear all about it next week. Great shot!
Perhaps a famous ‘West Nile’ native who has moved on in search of tastier accomodations.
Keith, I like your Anne Rice guess, because the water looks like a bayou, and the trees look like pine trees, and I know she has a house in New Orleans.
Pine trees, eh? Look a little more closely. I’ll add another hint: Those who resided here were real “characters.”
I see palm trees, but I just got back from Florida, so I might be a little delirious.
My trip was to Disney World, so I’ll take a stab at saying it was Disney himself to follow the ‘characters’ hint. At any rate, it’s beautiful!
You’re wearing your Thinking Cap today, Rain! Very observant re: the palm trees. And the character reference. Another clue: A 1970s/maybe 1980s television series. Not the Brady or Partridge house!
Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids
Hm. Not the Brady’s or Partridge’s? Could it be the Addams family’s house, with a coat of white paint? All that gingerbread, you know, even if it doesn’t look creepy (or vertical) enough. And weren’t the Addams family in California?
Addams Family was 1960s, but the house is somewhat similar. Pay attention to my headline…”They Welcomed Their Guests” (something like that). Hmmm…that word, welcome…hmmmm
OK!!!
It is the Queen Anne Cottage at the L.A. Arboretum. The TV series? “Fantasy Island!”
