It's Coming: Bauer Pottery's Annual Holiday Sale in L.A.
For collectors and admirers of the brilliantly colored Bauer Pottery line, this coming weekend, Saturday, December 6, 2008, marks the beginning of the company's annual two-weekend sale. I've previously had the pleasure of attending Bauer's December sale at its old warehouse in Los Angeles, and walked away with great deals on some vases and pitchers.
Shoppers this year will get to experience Bauer's newly remodeled showroom, where they won't be as likely to get accidentally shoved into a table of cups and saucers while perusing the merchandise along with other eager Bauer fans.
Touted as Bauer's "largest selection of seconds ever," shoppers will finddeals of up to 60% off retail prices on samples, factory seconds and current stock. Customers looking for brightly colored additions to their outdoor living spaces will find their famous oil jars (pictured, in turquoise), flower pots, jardineires, and Bauer's new Indian bowl planters and fabulous garden orbs (which will be featured in an upcoming holiday gift list on this site).
The J.A. Bauer Pottery Co. created its beautiful stoneware from the late 1880s to the early 1960s. With it's simple, modern designs and colorful glazes, Bauer featured dinnerware, flower pots and other household pottery and became very popular after the Depression. Not far from the old L.A. warehouse closed in the 1960s, Bauer 2000 has been producing pieces modeled after the originals, with an emphasis on the designs from the 1930s and 1940s.The annual Bauer Pottery Holiday Sale will be held at the showroom the weekends of December 6 and 7, and December 13 and 14, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. An online sale will run December 21 -- January 5, 2009.
