(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Jumping Into a Swimming Pool on a Float in the Rose Parade. Really.

Wednesday January 14, 2009

With swim-team kids cannon-balling into a 20' x 8' pool atop a flower-festooned float, it's no surprise that the "Making a Splash" entry from Mission Viejo, CA, won the "Judges' Special Award" a couple weeks ago at the 2009 Rose Parade in Pasadena. The award is given to the float with the most spectacular showmanship and dramatic impact.

I’ve always wanted to see the Rose Parade in person… I imagine the tv broadcast doesn’t really convey how intricate those floats can be.

That is really cool. I got to ride on a float exactly one time, at our town’s Halloween parade. It’s the biggest one in my state. I was in high school, and we did some cheesy school float celebrating our sports teams. Unfortunately, our teams were really bad. Our rival school was riding right in front of us, and tormented us the whole parade about our football team’s loss to them…44-0. Not quite as fun as a swimming pool float.

At least you got to ride on a float in the state’s biggest parade! I always thought that would be fun. The pool idea on a float–that’s a first, I’m pretty certain!

I can’t imagine how someone dreamed up this idea! And those kids have quite a story to tell: I once jumped in a swimming pool on a float in the Rose Parade. A little better story than yours, Debbie. Sorry.
