In Latin American countries and parts of the United States that border Mexico or have large Hispanic populations, Dia de los Muertos is celebrated November 1 and 2 -- All Saints Day and All Souls Day -- with feasts honoring departed loved ones. Families and friends also create and decorate altars in their yards, homes or at cemetaries in honor of the deceased, using candles, plants, food, marigolds and other symbolic objects and images to celebrate the lives of their dearly departed loved ones.
