Decorating Outside With Pantone's Emerald, 2013 'Color of the Year'

By January 31, 2013

Follow me on:

Last year was all about  the vibrant  Tangerine Tango. This year's Pantone Color of the Year is Emerald, associated with growth, renewal and prosperity. As things start to warm up outdoors (well, in the next few  months), designers and consumers may find themselves gravitating toward this "vivid, verdant green, which enhances our sense of well-being further by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony," as Pantone so eloquently describes 2013's "it" hue.

While you probably won't want to go out and buy up every emerald green garden chair, cushion, rug and path light in sight, it might be nice to have a touch of the green outside  here and there. Perhaps in a pattern on a pillow, a glass bird bath or an outdoor wall print. Of course, emerald can be found in nature, being green and all. There are plants, like Emerald Blueberry, Emerald Arborvitae and Elephant Ear. And places, like Florida's Emerald Coast: 24 miles of pristine white-sand beaches that stretch along the Gulf of Mexico. The sand in this region consists of pure Appalachian quartz, which remains cool year round and gives the waters an unmistakable emerald-green color by reflecting sunlight back up through the surf.

Ahhh...sounds nice. To help you plan your own backyard escape, I've found 12 outdoor furnishings and accessories that are emerald green. Not overwhelmingly emerald -- just nice, subtle touches for your favorite outdoor space. Oh, and did you know you can dye your swimming pool emerald green? St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner...
