Cold nights (freezing in some regions) make you want to bundle-up indoors and look through books that might contain your next spring or summer project. Check out this list of books I've compiled about DIY playhouse, treehouse, shed and backyard retreat projects that will get your mind off current concerns and help you look forward to the spring and summer. Once you've found the right book(s), you can look through the photos and plans together to figure out which project is the right one for you. Email or post your book choices or project progress in the Forum!
Another idea is to start planning or even constructing a do-it-yourself playhouse while you and your child are confined indoors, so that you can assemble it outside when the weather gets better. Spring is about six weeks or so away. Wouldn't it be nice to have it all done beforehand? Playhouses and treehouses have always been popular with kids, and offer an escape in a safe environment and a place of their own. Someplace they can start to put their own decorating style into.
A playhouse or treehouse doesn't have to be expensive, especially if you follow one of these free do-it-yourself plans. Show them to your child and let their ideas take flight.
