Years before the recession hit, bargain hunters were combing flea markets and estate sales looking for outdoor furnishings. Many weren't doing so out of necessity -- they simply liked the look and individuality of vintage patio chairs, tables, loungers and outdoor accessories. There's an endless supply out there, if you know how to spot the right pieces and negotiate.
Come along on this trip to the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena, one of the best in the United States. It's been an all-things vintage destination for decades, right in the heart of Southern California -- where patio culture and outdoor living spaces really kicked off. The Rose Bowl Flea Market has been known to attract all kinds of bargain hunters and purveyors of the eclectic, including celebrities -- I spied actor Jason Lee and his son Pilot Inspektor among the crowd on the Sunday I visited.
Don't forget to dress in layers, bring a hat, wear comfortable shoes and bring water and cash. Have fun exploring!
