It presented like an outdoor decorating enthusiast's ultimate estate sale, if only for sheer curiosity. No. 1 of the five-volume catalog set for the auction of Michael Jackson's Neverland estate is entitled Garden Statuary & Outdoor Furniture. While Neverland is nevermore, back in its heyday, the 2,800-acre compound boasted an amusement park, zoo, gardens, statuary, furnishings and unique outdoor art and collectibles. This was a chance to own a Neverland urn or statue.
Then again, nevermind. On opening day -- April 14, 2009 -- of the Jackson collection’s preview exhibit in Beverly Hills, the much-hyped auction of approximately 1,400 Neverland "artifacts" was canceled. Details are few, but basically Jackson succeeded to stop the auction because he wanted to keep some of his stuff.
The exhibit was set to run until April 25. While you won't be able to bid on a garden statue anytime soon, enjoy a rare look at what once inhabited the grounds reigned over by the King of Pop.
