Deck

An open area of wood flooring.

Entry Garden

A landscaped area near an entry.

Dormer

A dormer is a gabled extension built out from a sloping roof to accommodate a vertical window.

Espalier

A tree trained to grow horizontally.

Fence

A vertical structure constructed for privacy.

Fireplace

An outdoor source of warmth and gatherings.

Foundation Plantings

Landscaped beds surrounding the base of a structure.

FSC Certified

FSC Certified FSC, or Forest Stewardship Council, is a non-profit organization that sets high standards to ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible and socially beneficial manner.

Gate

An outside “door” that swings and allows access.

Gazebo

A freestanding, enclosed garden structure.

Hardscape, Hardscaping

The hard or solid areas in the outdoor space.

Hot Tub

Massages bathers with hot, bubbling water from built-in jets.

Landscape Architect

A licensed professional who plans and designs both residential and commercial landscaping.

Landscape Designer

A professional who creates conceptual landscape designs.

Lattice?

Often seen in landscape design and outdoor structures, lattice is a framework of diagonally crossing flat wood or metal pieces.
