Succulent plants work well with one another in the landscape. Case in point: this spectacular display of succulents in various heights, colors and textures. The green jade-like succulent in the foreground is Portulacaria afra, which can reach heights of 5 feet, and also is known as "elephant's food." A native of Africa, Portulacaria is, indeed, a favorite elephant snack.
If you live in an elephant-free zone, Portulacaria makes an attractive privacy screen. It also grows easily from cuttings.
The dark-purple succulent rosettes on stalks are Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop.'
