A colored-concrete patio floor can be made more interesting when a texture or design is added to the surface. Here, faux "fossils" are made using leaf imprints in different shapes and sizes, in a freeform, random pattern. Other ideas for adding surface interest to plain concrete:
- Embedded tile or flat glass
- Swirls and scores
- Rocks and aggregate
- Shells
- Children's handprints and footprints / pets' pawprints
- Heavily brushed
- Hosed-off to expose aggregate
- Seeded with rock salt for a pitted effect
Keep in mind that any of these embellishments or textures would occur while pouring a new or fresh batch of concrete for a patio or paver -- you can't add these effects to existing concrete. Just a reminder.
