It was Midcentury Modern architect John Lautner who designed what some believe to be the first infinity swimming pool in 1957 with his Silver Top residence in Silver Lake, near Hollywood, California. Approximately 30 years later, vanishing-edge, or infinity, pools became an increasingly requested pool design.
