The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Aqua-Leisure Industries announced on July 2, 2009, a voluntary recall of approximately 4 million babies' and toddlers' inflatable pool floats. The leg straps in the seats of the floats can tear, causing children to fall into or under the water.
While there have been 31 reports of the seats tearing, no injuries have been reported. The recalled floats were sold a variety of styles and colors. Consumers should contact Aqua-Leisure for a full refund.
Names of the Aqua-Leisure floats include the Baby & Me Combo, Deluxe Toddler Racer, Cozy Crab Sunshade, Ticklish Turtle Sunshade, Aquarium Baby Float, Kiddie Cabin Cruiser, Sing-Along Wave Rider, Sunshade Water Buggy and the Squirtin' Tootin' Tugboat.
The baby and toddler floats were sold at stores such as Target; Walmart; Toys "R" Us; Kmart; Ace Hardware; Walgreens; Bed, Bath & Beyond and Dollar General from December 2002 through June 2009.
The names and model numbers of the recalled floats can be found on the packaging. A date between 08/02 and 07/08 is molded on the valves of the inflatable floats. Aqua-Leisure products that are not included in the recall can be identified by the letters "NP" molded on the valves of inflatables.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the Aqua-Leisure inflatable baby floats and contact Aqua-Leisure for a full refund. Their toll-free number is (866) 807-3998.
