The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with Fiesta Gas Grills announced on July 21, 2009, a voluntary recall of approximately 88,000 Blue Ember Gas Grills sold in the United States and Canada. In October 2008, about 47,000 Blue Ember gas grills were recalled in the United States, while 25,000 were recalled in Canada.
According to a report released by the CPSC, the hose of the gas grill's tank can pose a fire hazard to consumers if it gets too close to the firebox. Fiesta Gas Grills, the Dickson, Tennessee-based importer of Blue Ember Grills, has received 161 reports of grill fires. Included in the reports were incidents involving nine injuries, including two cases of major burns on different parts of the victims' bodies; six cases of minor burns; and an incident involving temporary hearing loss.
The gas grills being recalled are Blue Ember liquid propane (LP) outdoor grills in a range of model and serial numbers. The cabinet-style grills have two doors and is silver and black or silver and gray. The "Blue Ember" logo is printed on the grill's hood. The model and serial numbers are printed on a rating plate label on the back of the grill.
Blue Ember gas grills under recall were sold in the U.S. between November 2006 and June 2008; and in Canada between November 2006 and May 2009. The grills were sold at various retailers from November 2006 through June 2008 for $400--$500 in the U.S. and from November 2006 through May 2009 for $400--$600 in Canada.
