Halloween Outdoor Yard Decorations - Skel-a-Mingoes - skelaton flamingo

What happened to the pink flamingos? Only the Skel-A-Flamingos know for sure.

The Bottom Line

From a sturdy-product standpoint, these featherless friends pass the test. Like their pink predecessors, the Skel-A-Flamingos are plastic. I'm not sure about the fade-ability factor, but: 1) you won't be leaving these guys outdoors for as long as the traditional pink flamingos; 2) if you place them under eaves, a tree, or nestled among shrubs or ornamental grasses, they should stay somewhat protected from the sun's autumnal rays.

At under $30 for a pair of these pretty --ummm, pretty eerie -- birds, these decorations are unconventionally cool and will last through many Halloweens.

Pros

  • A fun take on the beloved pink flamingo, icon of midcentury lawns.
  • Lightweight; easy to store.
  • Clean demarcations; painting is neat; not sloppy.
  • A refreshingly original change from some types of decorations we've seen too much of.

Cons

  • Metal "legs" can come loose from their plastic slots, but stay put once in ground.
  • Scare Factor: Might seem creepy to very young children.

Description

  • Hard plastic.
  • When assembled, stand approximately 34 inches tall.
  • Decorate your yard, lawn, pool deck, planter, porch, patio, deck, balcony or basically anywhere you can stick-in their legs.

Guide Review - Halloween Outdoor Decorations: Skel-A-Flamingos

If you're a longtime fan of the venerable pink flamingo, then this might be the perfect item(s) to add to your collection of everything flamingo or unique Halloween decorations. Packaged as a traditional pair, these modern versions of midcentury lawn ornaments would look great in several types of settings, from a mini Manhattan balcony to a sprawling Palm Springs Modern-style spread. Depending on the limitations of your property and budget, these skeletal charmers could enhance a doorway, or on a grand scale, stage a flock-filled invasion on your front lawn.

While the "bony" parts of the Skel-A-Flamingos are "painted" with a glow-in-the-dark material, casting them with a well-positioned spotlight on the ground will bring out their inner beauty. These guys are sophisticated enough to stand on their own (often on one leg)as your sole Halloween decoration. On the other hand, they'd look great with other carefully chosen Halloween decorations and accessories, like retro or goth. You know -- less is more.
