Family friendly or adults only?
We are family friendly. All ages are welcome.
What I Did:
This year, Jose Ramon Avenue will take Halloween and Sonoma County by storm with our new Wicked West Ghost Town design. No more black plastic: we're going big with a life-size Ghost Town facade that will transform our home into a replica of an old section of Santa Rosa from the early 1800s. We designed the entire display around the legend of the Rosa Witch. So be sure to read the short story before heading out.
How I Did It:
The display has a ton of automated and static props set throughout the yard. In the past, many visitors have said it's "the best yard haunt in Sonoma County.” Features include a full-scale Ghost Town facade, with a mini haunted house-style walk of terror, lots of animatronics -- such as our hangman and our insane shaking Marshal -- as well as many other thrills throughout the town. We have also integrated our 64-channel Light-O-Rama system into the haunt and added more Halloween music to the show this year. What does this mean? It means the Ghost Town will be fully computerized with synchronized music and lighting, making our haunt more than just a trick or treating hot spot...it turns the entire town into a full-on light show.
Lights turn on October 2, 2010. They run Sundays - Thursdays 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Halloween night will be the show of all shows with real people in costume hiding within the Wicked West Ghost Town waiting for brave trick or treaters. It will start 6 p.m. and end at around midnight.
It’s fun, free and the neighborhood works hard to make this a safe environment for all ages. You can see photos, videos, updates and more information about us on our abovementioned website.
Tips and Tricks
- Tip One - Find the buttons located on the poll in front and press them if you dare.
- Tip Two - Kiddies you will have to walk the ghost town to get your treats.
- Tip Three - If you see the Rosa Witch, be sure to stand still and don’t move. She doesn’t see well, so hopefully she won’t notice you.
Lisa Hallett Taylor, Pool & Patio Guide, says:
Looks like a home yard haunt that has turned into a neighborhood effort, which seems to be the trend in the past couple of years and adds a certain element of fun both in the preparation and actual event. If I were a kid, I'd prefer a neighborhood yard haunt over trick-or-treating at the local mall or doing "trunk-or-treat" in the parking lot at a nearby church.Santa Rosa is just north of San Francisco. Bit o' trivia: the Alfred Hitchcock film, Shadow of a Doubt (my favorite), was set and filmed in Santa Rosa. Wes Craven's film Scream was also filmed on the same street: McDonald Avenue.
